Rest, Cold, Compression, Elevation

Most people think that RICE - Rest, Ice, Compression & Elevation - is the formula to follow when treating a soft tissue injury. The truth is that temperatures below freezing can be too cold to effectively relieve pain and swelling. And these temperatures can also be dangerous. Ice can actually freeze your skin and numb your nerves, causing 'cold burns' and even permanent damage to your underlying tissue. The proper solution is RCCE® - Rest, Cold, Compression & Elevation. We don't want to apply ice, we want to apply cold that is just above freezing. Yes, you want cold - and lots of it - but not so cold that it is below the freezing point of water.


Ice Is Too Cold But RigiGel Is Just Right

Ice pack injuries are so common, there are actually law firms that specialize in representing people who suffer from them. XC Gel® packs stay in the safe, effective zone of 32°F / 0°C. While ice and blue gel packs will rapidly rise in temperature, our gel packs go to 32°F / 0°C quickly and stay there for a long time.


These gel packs are engineered to be safe. Not all freezers are the same. Some are much colder than others If the gel packs are too cold to be safe, the gel packs become very rigid, and cannot be put in the wrap. This is for your safety. ColdCure: A Portable Alternative to Cold Therapy Machines


Many people search for motorized cold therapy units (such as the DonJoy Iceman, Ossur Cold Rush, or Breg Polar Care). It is important to know how these machines differ from a medical wrap. Most motorized units use a pump to move ice water through hoses. These units can be hard to use. You must stay near a power outlet while using them. They can also leak or stop working. The King Brand ColdCure® wrap is a portable system. It uses XC RigiGel® to hold 10x more cold than standard packs. It gives you the same healing power as other clinical systems (like the Zynex CryoHeat or Aircast Cryo/Cuff). Our wraps are silent and have no bulky setup. Picking the right treatment is about safety and results. Some motorized units (like the Active Ice or Game Ready) can get too cold. This can cause skin damage or nerve pain. ColdCure® wraps are made to stay at a safe 32F (0C). This gives you the deep cooling you need after surgery. It works well for all injuries including ACL repairs or hip replacements. The Blood Flow Stimulation Therapy® (BFST®) device uses our patented Energy Web® to bring specially controlled EMR energy to your injury. This deep penetrating energy works to increase blood flow in the injured area, creating an ideal environment for healing.

This is not a typical heating pad. Heating pads have very little therapeutic value because they only heat the surface of the skin. That does nothing to heal the damaged tissues deep below the dermal (fat and skin) layer. BFST® stimulates blood flow from within, accelerating the healing process. Normal heating pads can't do this.

The medical term for it is "diathermy". Most people are familiar with a kind of diathermy known as ultrasound that physical therapy clinics use for treating injuries.
