Combination Therapy means using ColdCure® and BFST® in combination by alternating treatments. Combination Therapy is much more effective than using just ColdCure® or just BFST®. This is because you're getting both the pain and swelling relief of ColdCure® and the healing benefits of BFST®, resulting in the absolute best treatment for your injury.
Combination Therapy will get you on the road to recovery and back to your regular activities at an amazing rate.
Use the ColdCure® Wrap for at least 2 straight days before using the BFST® Wrap. This will help reduce not only the visible swelling you may see on the surface, but also the inflammation you may have and cannot see, deep down in the soft tissue.
Avoid using the BFST® Wrap until your inflammation and swelling has subsided. If you experience any pain or discomfort during BFST® treatments, this is an indication that you may have internal inflammation. In this case, please discontinue BFST® treatments for several days and focus on reducing the inflammation with your ColdCure® Wrap.
Start your BFST treatments on Level 1. For maximum benefit, please take into consideration that each 20 minute treatment optimizes your blood circulation for an average of 4 hours. We recommend 3-4 treatments daily, spread throughout the day.
Initially, when you begin your treatments on Level 1, you may experience a tingling or heightened warming sensation. Over time you will notice the warming sensation diminishing. When you feel almost no warmth at the beginning of a new treatment, it is time to increase to the next level. Start your treatments on Level 1 - proceeding immediately to Level 2 or 3 will NOT speed up your healing time - you need to condition the body first and move up levels gradually in order to gain maximum benefit from your BFST® treatments.
A BFST® treatment first thing in the morning will help relax damaged tissue and increase blood flow. This will help reduce stiffness.
During the day, do a BFST® treatment every 4 hours or before any type of physical activity. This can include anything that puts a strain on the injured area (Ex. Walking/standing for long periods of time if injury is on knee or foot). This can also be used for preventative measures after a full recovery to optimize your blood flow.
Do a ColdCure® treatment any time you experience a pain flare-up or after any physical activity to prevent further injury and reduce swelling and inflammation.
Wait 30-45 minutes after your ColdCure® treatment to use BFST® again. This time will allow the blood flow and body temperature to regulate again.
Refrain from using the ColdCure® Wrap within the 4 hours following your 20 minute BFST® treatment. This will counteract the treatment. If necessary, use the ColdCure® for pain control, then follow up with another BFST® treatment.
A BFST® treatment before going to bed will relax the area and aid healing.
Please note that you may charge the RigiGel® packs either in the fridge or the freezer depending on your cold preference. The more inflamed your injury is, the less sensitive your skin may be to cold temperatures. Always have a protective layer of fabric between your skin and the ColdCure® Wrap if you choose to charge your gels in the freezer, and keep treatment time to 20 minutes on 20 minutes off.
Combination Therapy is a complete treatment - you're getting everything you need to heal your injury.
It's important to understand that the healing process takes much longer than most people realize. After 4-6 weeks of treatment your pain may be gone, but this does not mean you are healed. Even if your pain is 100% gone, your tissue may only be 20% or 30% healed. This is why you need to continue using BFST® for months after the pain is gone. Regular BFST® treatments will help your tissue get stronger and will protect the affected area from re-injury. If you want to maintain the healing you've done and prevent re-injury, make sure you do a BFST® treatment before any physical activity.
You can start being active again once you've done about 4-6 weeks of Combination Therapy treatment or when the pain is gone. You can't start being active any earlier because your tissue must be at a certain point in the healing process before you put any strain on it. Putting strain on the injured area too soon will only result in re-injury and this will set back your healing. And you don't want to set back your healing because you will have to start the healing process all over again.
Up until the 4-6 week mark you should be resting the injured area as much as possible. During this time your damaged tissue is very vulnerable to re-injury and rest is needed to ensure proper healing.
When it comes to being active again you want to start with some light stretching. The key is to avoid over-straining the area. Do not start doing rigorous exercises or resume the level of activity you were doing before you were injured. You can work your way back up to this level, but you have to give your body the time it needs to recover and adjust to the activity you are doing. Gradually increase the intensity of your exercise as you heal for best results and a reduced risk of re-injury.
Do a BFST® treatment before physical activity to warm up your circulatory system and increase blood flow. This will protect your body from re-injury. Do a ColdCure® treatment after physical activity to reduce inflammation in the deep tissue.
You can also start seeing a physiotherapist once you've done 4-6 weeks of treatment and rest. The purpose of physiotherapy is to slowly restore movement and function to prevent re-injury. Your physiotherapist will recommend stretching and strengthening exercises for you to do, as well as some light aerobics. The goal is to do these exercises without re-injuring the area, which can be difficult. A physiotherapist can show you how to do this.
When you do resume physical activity, you should not feel any pain in the injured area. If you do feel pain, you are pushing yourself too hard and need to reduce the intensity level of your exercises. This also goes for physio sessions. If you feel pain during physio, tell your physiotherapist. They will adjust your exercises to something less intense to avoid the pain.
If you're taking painkillers before you do any physical activity, you're only masking the pain. This is dangerous when we're injured. Without the pain to remind us of our injury, we feel like we can do more than we really should. Masking the pain leads to re-injury and a worsened condition. Don't take painkillers before physical activity or you will be looking at a much longer recovery time. You want to feel the pain so you can avoid re-injury and heal faster. It is understandable that people need relief from the pain, so if you're going to take painkillers, try to restrict them to times when you are at rest. You can use painkillers to help you sleep.
The ColdCure® Wraps are specifically designed to treat the pain associated with soft tissue injuries and chronic conditions. These innovative devices are incredibly soothing and protect the injured area from further strain.
Soft tissue injuries and chronic conditions can be extremely painful and debilitating. NSAIDs such as ASA, acetaminophen or ibuprofen are often used to treat the pain, but these drugs do nothing to treat the actual condition. In fact, NSAIDs are known blood thinners and make the bleeding worse for fresh tissue injuries. Typical pain medications actually interfere with the healing process. Cortisone injections are used in extreme cases but these too are intended to address the pain. They do not promote healing of the injury and they put you at a very high risk of further injury.
